Staying at home in the country

Living out here in the country I wake up to the crisp fall air. Both my babies are at home and my oldest won't be starting school for 2 more years. It was a hard adjustment staying home with my babies that first year, but now, I'm so grateful. I have so much freedom. My 3 year old daughter and I went cruising on the four-wheeler the other day and took pictures of flowers. We also picked some and brought them home to put in a vase. We captured some tiny frogs at the lake and brought them home too. I think to myself. Wow, it's really wonderful to be able to spend time with my daughter like this. I fought staying at home for a long time, but I've settled into it and am finally enjoying myself.

10 Things My husband Would Never Do...

Being a mother includes many daily tasks. Men wonder what we do staying at home. Most men don't think of doing certain things that make a house a home - women do all of those "little things". My husband is probably like most men. Here is a tiny sampling of those "little things" he would never do...

1. Clean out the crumbs from a toaster.

2. Let the babies unravel 3 rolls of toilet paper and empty the contents under the bathroom sink. (to keep them occupied while I go to the bathroom)

3. Clean the crud behind the knobs on the oven.

4. Think..."maybe I should wash the kid's sticky hands and faces before letting them play in the dirt."

5. Organize the kid's play animals - dinosaurs, farm animals, safari animals, etc.

6. Check on the babies at night - even though they haven't made a peep.

7. Think of the hazards of bringing a live turtle in the house for the kids to play with, then build a home for the poor creature.

8. Clean the dust off of the fan blades.

9. Suction snot out of the baby's nose.

10. Wash, dry and put away Barbie clothes.

Everyday, it's always something

All mothers go through it. The million things that we do for our children, our home, our spouses, our friends, animals, etc.

Here's a snap shot of my day today...

Both babies have fevers. My 3 year old and 18 month old.
They get the "cling-on syndrome" during times of sickness. Tried to straighten up house as to not scare baby sitter. Got 3 year old to the doctor. He has no clue as to why the fevers. Ear infection? Bladder infection? Plague? hmmm...Let's get a urine sample. Let's pee in the pan sweetie. Ooops. pan falls into water. Let's try again, nope not even a drop mommy. OK, better give an antibiotic that will cover everthing. OK, off to the pharmacy.

Stopped at store to get diapers, milk, juicy juice and cookies. Diapers and milk are extremely heavy while carrying them along with 35 pound toddler. My right arm bicep is noticeably larger than my left. This causes my back to go into spasm, which in turn causes me to ask for muscle relaxants from doctor. These are also helpful while my children have the "cling-on syndrome".

Got home. Baby freaking out with baby sitter. Starts crying and wants to be held while I'm trying to put things away. Check baby's temperature with rectal thermometer, yep, 101. Baby freaks out with thermometer and throws up the milk, raisins and apple juice fed to him by babysitter. Babysitter freaks out and goes home.

Get tylenol into both babies. They calm down and watch Balto. Whew! I can eat my cold Arby's sandwich and wash down a muscle relaxant with a juicy juice.

Just a snap shot of my day, there will be more to come. Thanks for stopping by.
